Mrs. Rose Halprin, one of the two women members of the Jewish Agency executive, was today elected president of Hadassah, at the conclusion of the organization’s 23rd annual convention. She had served as president previously.
The closing meeting approved the proposed budget of $4,720,000, largest in Hadassah’s history, and adopted a resolution backing the Agency’s “reluctant acceptance” of partition. The resolution urged the U.N. to act with dispatch on the UNSCOP report and urged that the proposed boundaries be modified to place western Galilee and the Jewish section of Jerusalem within the Jewish state. It also thanked the U.S. Government for its stand and urged that it press for approval of partition by the General Assembly.
Other officers elected today were: vice-presidents – Mrs. Alexander M. Dushkin, Mrs. Benjamin Gottesman and Mrs. David B. Greenberg, all of New York; Mrs. Louis ##Rcthenberg, of Piedmont, California; Mrs. Abraham Strauss of Cleveland and Mrs. Perry #Sewel of Memphis. Treasurer – Mrs. Abraham Tulin, of New York. Secretary – Mrs. ##lliot F. Glassberg, of New Rochelle. Chairman of National Board – Mrs. Herman Shulmen. Recording Secretary – Mrs. Nathan D. Perlman.
