Dutch Jewish Leader Charged with Collaborationism Refuses Release on Medical Grounds

Dr. Abraham Asscher, Dutch Jewish leader who was arrested last Friday on charges of having collaborated with the Nazis by registering Jews slated for deportation, today refused an official offer to release him on medical grounds pending trial. The 88-year-old industrialist was co-chairman of the Nazi-directed National Jewish Council during the occupation.
