Secretary of State George C. Marshall told the House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on foreign aid this morning that regretted that the United States had not taken the lead in solving the DP problem so that other countries would be encouraged to accept a share of the refugees.
The “lead-off” should have come from this country, he said, pointing out that it was a “loss that we didn’t make the initial move ourselves so that we could get other countries to accept some themselves.”
