As a result of the destruction of Jewish centers of learning and culture in Europe by the Nazis, “Jewry must look to America not only for material help, but for spiritual rehabilitation as well,” former Gov. Herbert Lehman declared today at the annual conference of the National Council of Organizations for Yeshiva University.

Referring to the curriculum of the university, Gov. Lehman said that “here we have an opportunity to amalgamate the intellectual and cultural achievements of our democracy with the spiritual ideals of Judaism.” During the day, 22 fraternal groups and individuals were awarded certificates of merit for establishing scholarships at the University, which is now in the midst of a drive for $7,500,000 for an expansion program.
