Calls on World Jewry to Cooperate in Building Jewish State; Lauds Ben Gurion

A call to the Jews of the world to stand together ## collectively aid in the building of the Jewish state was issued last night by ##e Shertok, head of the political department of the Jewish Agency, addressing a victory celebration” sponsored by the Hadassah.

“Now that faith has brought us victory, the vindication of that faith is the collective responsibility of all of us–the Jewish people throughout the world,” ##tok said. “Let us stand together and let us stand by the Yishuv to vindicate that faith.”

Paying special tribute to David Ben Gurion, chairman of the Jewish Agency ##cutive, for the role he played in the struggle to establish the Jewish state, ##tok said: “Ben Gurion, more than any other single individual in the Zionist government, has focused the mind of the present Zionist organization upon the achievement of statehood as an objective. He is a man fearless in compromise and in conflict.”Eliezer Kaplan, Agency treasurer, said that the British administration during ## last few weeks has been trying to remove from Palestine as much funds as possible. ##e main question,” he stated, “is not what is happening in Palestine at the moment, ##t what may happen in Palestine in general. A very urgent point is the question of security. The problem is a complicated one. We need men, organization, arms and money.”

Mrs. Rose Halprin, Hadassah president, also spoke on the need for arms. “Now that the Jewish people have demonstrated that they are prepared to defend the decision of the United Nations to create a Jewish state, we have a right to expect and the world has the responsibility to provide the arms and equipment we need to defend ourselves,” she declared.
