Proposed new regulations giving the government closer control over the stay and activities of alien visitors to the United States were announced today by Attorney General Tom Clark.
The proposed regulations, which will be published in the Federal Register ###hin the next two or three days, will shorten the period for which aliens are adulated as visitors from one year to six months and in some cases to three months. ##ens wishing to stay beyond the six-months limit must submit applications for ex-##sions of stay. Most visitors whose stay is extended over a year will be required ##post bond, the Attorney General said.
The responsibility for overseeing visitors, in the United States will be centralized to the local immigration off ices having Jurisdiction over the localizes where the visitors are staying. Alien visitors will be required to notify the commissioner of Immigration and Naturalization of their addresses every three months.
