More than 700 applications for the restitution of Jewish property stolen by the Nazis in Bavaria have been received thus far by the local German government. The applications come from all parts of the world and are forwarded here from Bad Nauheim, where the central registry office for restitution applications is located, and from which many more cases are expected.

Five restitution courts have been established to hear contested cases, under the recently promulgated restitution law for the American zone. Appeals may be carried to a three-man body of Bavarian government officials. The three are: Dr. Philip Auerbach, Commissioner for Persecutees; Joseph Mueller, Minister of Justice; and Hans Kraus, Minister of Finance.
