The sub-committee, consisting of Reps. Frances P. Bolton and Chester E. ?errow, visited Palestine, Iraq and Saudi Arabia. It came to the conclusion that the “intolerance” of Arabs and Jews and the “rigidity” of their leaders are responsible for strained Arab-Jewish relations.
The report cites arguments for a federated Arab-Jewish state in Palestine and asserts that Dr. J.L. Magnes, president of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, favors this idea. It also refers to “groups of Orthodox Jews, strangely inarticulate” who told the members of the sub-committee that to them “Zionism is the greatest tragedy ever faced by the Jewish People.”
