International Refugee Organization officials in Italy today proposed to the Organization of Jewish Refugees in Italy that all DP’s contribute 40 hours of unpaid labor monthly toward the maintenance of the camps in which they reside.
The reaction of the leaders of the Jewish refugee organization has not yet been made clear, but it is expected that the DP’s themselves will oppose the request. Previously a large number of the regularly employed DP’s served on camp administrative or maintenance staffs.
