More than 400 Jewish students in the United States have filed applications for entrance into the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, in addition to the 150 who are now studying there, it was declared today at a press conference by Sir Leon Simon, chairman of the executive council of the University, who is visiting the United States.

Sir Leon will, during his stay in this country, help in the $1,100,000 campaign for the University now under way, $500,000 of which is sought in New York City. “Armored cars,” Sir Leon reported, “carry 150 faculty members and students to the Hebrew University, on the top of Mt. Scopus, where they install themselves for a period of two weeks, after which they are relieved by ‘alternates. In this manner, it has been possible to continue essential scientific work which has been in progress for years. Otherwise the laborious investigations and the experimental work in some instances would be completely lost.”
