Man Confers with Lehman on Palestine; Limited Arab-jewish Truce Urged by Lehman

Gov. Herbert H. Lehman today discussed the Pales-w question with President Truman at the President’s request.” He later refused to close the results of the conversation and denied that he was considering taking position that would make, him advisor to the President on Palestine.

President Truman is deeply interested and concerned about the situation in destine, he told reporters after leaving the White House. Asked f or his own views, jean said that he considers the Palestine situation “very unfortunate” and that he ill believes in partition with an international force to maintain peace. He also believes that steps must he taken by the U.N. to set up a trusteeship for the entire area of Jerusalem.

“Since time is so short,” he stated, “I would like to see a limited truce of out three or four months, under which there would be no final determination with re-to partition or trusteeship, and which would provide for substantial immigration land purchase, and permitting free passage throughout Palestine for all persons 94 in peaceful pursuits.” He thought immigration should be set at approximately 1,000 persons monthly.
