The State Department announced today that about 25 transport planes of the Air Force have arrived in Cyprus from Europe and that, “in view of the unsettled conditions in the Hear East,” these planes axe being held at the Nicosia airport to evacuate American citizens from that area “in case of need. “

The planes are to stand by in Cyprus in case they are needed to evacuate U.S. citizens from any spot in that area where trouble exists or breaks out, including the Jerusalem area, State Department press officer Lincoln White said, estimating the number of U.S. citizens in Palestine at present at 4,200.
