Neither the Arabs nor the Jews had tonight given their final replies to Count Folke Bernadotte, U.N. mediator, on his proposals for an cession of the four-week Palestine truce or his proposed demilitarization of Jerusalem and Haifa, United Nations headquarters here announced.
The mediator will make known the final decisions of both parties in a statement to “be issued from his Rhodes headquarters tomorrow, it was stated. Preparations were under way here tonight for the departure of some 200 members of the U.N. staff, should the truce not be prolonged. The United States naval cargo vessel, Marquette, was arrived here to take on Jeeps, trucks and other United Nations equipment in case the truce terminates.
A report from Cairo said tonight that the Arab League political committee has decided to reject Bornadotte’s plan to extend the Palestine truce.
