At least 18 casualties–15 Arabs and three Jews–have resulted from the truce breaches, the officials reported. Two of the three Jews wounded in the skirmishes are in a serious condition. The Arabs were shot when Israeli units returned their fire in the southern and eastern sectors of the city, where the truce has been broken most frequently.
A spokesman for the Israeli military governor revealed that a meeting scheduled for today between the Jewish and Arab military commanders here has been cancelled. The conference was arranged at the request of U.N. truce observers who hoped it might result in bringing about an end to beaches of the truce, the spokesman said.
