Last Minute News Jewish Agency Decides to Give No Funds to the Government of Israel

The Jewish Agency at a meeting today adopted a resolution declaring that it would no longer contribute funds for security, military or political purposes in Israel. The text of the resolution reads:

“Whereas the state of Israel has been proclaimed and its Provisional Government is now exercising all the functions and prerogatives of government and particularly those necessary for the preservation of life and property generally classified as security and military functions as well as the political and Governmental functions in the relations of the Israel Government to all other Governments and to the United nations, now therefore, be it resolved:

“1. That from and after August 1 no part of the funds of the Jewish Agency will be expended for security, military and political purposes nor for carrying on propaganda or otherwise attempting to influence legislation;

“2. That no funds of the Agency “be directly or indirectly contributed to the Government of Israel for any purpose whatsoever;

“3. That Agency funds will continue to be employed solely for charitable purposes and for no other use and purposes whatsoever.”
