Biitish Jews Ask Govt. to Act Against Two German Pow’s Who Staged Anti-semitic Indident

The British Government was today called upon to take action against Kurt Wagner and Erwin Scholz, two German prisoners of war who created an anti-Semitic disturbance last week at a meeting of the International Spiritualist Conference. The call was issued by the Board of Deputies of British Jews, after it heard a report on the incident and the status of the two Nazis who name to Britain from the U.S. where they had been incarcerated in prisoner of war camps.

The Deputies also heard a report of an anti-Semitic incident which occurred during the Olympic Games a, held here in July. Following a dispute between a Jewish member of the Argentinian soccer team and a member of the Austrian team, the entire Austrian team shouted anti-Semitic insults at the Jew. A representative of the World Jewish Congress urged the deputies to protest to the Austrian Government, revealing that the W.J.C. had done so.

The Board of Deputies voted to accept an invitation issued by Rene Cassin, president of the Alliance Insraelite Universelle, to meet with other major Jewish consultative organizations and plan a joint presentation of the Jewish case to the forthcoming meeting of the United Nations General Assembly. During the debate on the actions number of speakers attacked the World Jewish Congress for allegedly obstructing such cooperation, Dr. W Bienenfeld and M. Bakstansky, of the Congress, defended their organization against the charges, asserting that the spirit of cooperation “cannot be fostered by such attacks.” One of the Congress1 severest critics was H.A. Goodman, political secretary of the Agudas Israel.
