The Jewish people’s willingness to face its responsibilities toward Israel will be measured by the resources of the Jewish agency treasury, Dr. Israel Goldstein, newly-elected Agency treasurer, declared last night prior to leaving for a one-month trip to the United States.
Dr. Goldstein, who will return to Jerusalem after the U.S. visit to serve one-year term of office, was honored at a reception tendered him by the General monist Party, of which he is the world chairman. He said that since American Jewry the most influential and largest Jewish community in the world, it will have to ###vide the greatest resources ne3ded in Israel.
Asserting that it is for American Jews to decide “how many tens of thousands” immigrants shall enter Israel, Dr. Goldstein said that he hoped that the United Jewish Appeal, under Henry Morgenthau’s leadership, will be more successful in 1949 in 1948 and that under the leadership of Rabbi Abba Hillel Silver the New York ##anch of the Agency executive will he successful in mobilizing economic resources the development of Israel.
