Italian Jews Launch Drive to Erect Building for Future Israeli Embassy in Rome

A drive to raise funds for the erection of a building which will house the future Israeli Embassy here was launched today under the direction of Rafaelo Cantoni, chairman of the Union of Italian Jewish Communities. The announced goal is 50,000,000 lira. Present plans call for the completion of the building by the beginning of 1950.

The first three ambulances to be purchased by Italian Jewry for shipment to Israel through the Magen David Adom were dispatched today to the Jewish state amid festive celebrations. The ambulances were dedicated in the courtyard of the famous Rome Synagogue.

Israeli representative to Italy Arieh Stern paid a call over the week-end on James C. Dunn, United States Ambassador to this country. Their meeting lasted for nearly an hour.
