Approximately 110 students of the freshman class of Brandeis University, first Jewish sponsored secular university in the United States, were today officially welcomed by President Abram L. Sachar. The freshman class begins its studies tomorrow.
At the formal convocation President Sachar told the students that each of them had been selected only on the basis of academic and personal qualifications. “No thought was given to race, creed or economic background of applicants,” he emphasized. More than 70 percent of the students will reside in the University’s dormitories.
