The Brazilian Government this week eased the limitations on immigration, the New York Times reported today from Rio de Janeiro. Brazilian consuls abroad have been ordered to act on their own in selecting immigrants. Hitherto, they had to clear every visa application with the Foreign Office.
Brazilian authorities now say that they want large numbers of prospective settlers, regardless of their occupations, particularly those between the ages of 18 and 60. Those seeking admission to Brazil who are under 18 must be accompanied by their parents, while applicants above 60 must receive special permission from the government.
