ISTANBUL (Nov. 2)
A group of Israeli vessels is expected to arrive within a few days to embark large numbers of Turkish Jews who have applied for emigration to the Jewish state, it was learned here. Other groups of immigrants will leave soon for Israel aboard specially-chartered vessels.
Approximately 5,000 Jews living in various parts of Turkey have applied to date for emigration visas to Israel. Some 2,000 of these applicants are reported to have already received their Turkish passports.
(The New York Times today reported from Ankara that emigration of Turkish Jews to Israel. came to at least a temporary halt yesterday with new instructions issued to the political section of the Istanbul police that no further visas for Israel should be issued. The police were also instructed to consider void all passports previously issued to Jews of Turkish nationality wanting to emigrate to Israel. The action, it was reported, was taken following demands of the Arab League to the Turkish Government to end the emigration.)
