The Jewish communities of the Twin Cities–Minneapolis and St. Paul–were warned by members of the Minnesota Rabbinical Association in these cities that after March 1, 1949, they will “not officiate at weddings conducted outside the synagogue or home.”
In a statement released here, the rabbis declared that “marriage is a scared covenant, hallowed by traditional prayers which bind two people unto each other before God and man. Only the sanctuary of the home or the sanctuary of the synagogue is an appropriate setting for so sacred a service.”
