The remnants of a once-strong Egyptian garrison out off in the Iraq Suowidan police station, in the Negev, today surrendered after a short, but bloody attempt to break through the Israeli blockading lines.

At about noon the Egyptians made their first sortie out of the fortress in the direction of Faluja, where the main body of Arab troops in the area are concentrated. Some succeeded in breaking through, but others were hurled back. The Israelis used artillery in the engagement, which ended with the Egyptian surrender shortly before 4 P.M.
