Replying to a charge by Laborite M.P. Barnett Janner on the floor of Commons today that the baggage of Jewish refugees leaving Cyprus for Israel has been broken open and the contents scattered and damaged by bayonet piercing, Colonial Secretary Arthur Creech-Jones stated:
“Suspicious luggage belonging to Jews leaving the Cyprus camps for Palestine is examined in order to receive stolen camp property and detect concealed men of military age, more than one of whom has been found hidden in boxes. The search in conducted with care and the allegations of damage are unfounded.”
The Palestine citrus growers delegation now here has concluded an agreement with British officials providing for the shipment of 4,000,000 cases of citrus products to Britain, it was learned today. Two members of the delegation, L. Ariav and Zvi Isaacson, will leave soon for the United States on an important trade mission. The third member of the group, Isaac Rokaoh, will return within a few days to Israel.
