Eliahu Epstein, Israeli special representative to the United States, and Michael J. Comay, member of the Israeli delegation at the U.N., conferred for over an hour yesterday with Under-Secretary of State Robert A. Lovett on several matters concerning Israel and the current negotiations at the U.N. in Paris.
Epstein told reporters after the meeting that they would pass Mr. Lovett’s views on to the Israeli Government. In response to questions, he said the current Israeli discussions with the Export-Import Bank with regard to a loan are proceeding and that it is now a matter of supplying the Bank with detailed information on projected uses of the loan. He thought it would be “some time” before they knew the outcome of the discussions. Asked if he were confident about the outcome of the discussions, Epstein replied “we are confident that we will get everything that has been promised to us.”
At a press conference here Lovett declared that the State Department has no information on the Israeli charges that British troops are in Transjordan and that some of them have entered Israeli territory.
