Turkey Will Not Permit Jews to Leave for Any Country if They Intend to Reach Israel

No Turkish Jews will be permitted to leave the country for any point in Europe if they intend eventually to go to Israel, the government indicated today, following its recent decision to halt direct immigration from Turkey to the Jewish state.

No official statement has yet been made to explain the government’s complete reversal of policy in recent weeks from encouraging immigration to Israel to imposing a complete ban on it.
