“Israel must not be compelled by diplomatic pressure to trade territory for recognition,” Judge Morris Rothenberg, president of the Jewish National Fund, declared in an address before 2,000 persons participating in a J.N.F. dinner. “Formal recognition by the United Nations of the state of Israel is an act of justice dictated by history, by the present situation and by the urgent need to restore peace to the Middle East,” he added.
