Reform Jews Dedicate 14 New Congregations in N.Y. on Occasion of Chanukah

Fourteen new Jewish congregations were dedicated last night in the metropolitan area on the occasion of Chanukah, it was announced today by the New York Federation of Reform Synagogues, with which the new synagogues are affiliated.

The Union of American Hebrew Congregations and the Central Conference of American Rabbis, in a Chanukah message, urged Jews throughout the world “to redouble our efforts in behalf of our faith and to hasten the day when all humanity will dwell in security, freedom and peace.”

Special Chanukah celebrations were arranged last night by the Jewish Welfare Board for Jewish members of the armed forces and for Jews hospitalized in veterans hospitals. An announcement by the Joint Distribution Committee said that Jews in Europe marked the ancient festival with special allocations of religious articles, The J.D.C. also distributed 9,000 holiday toys to children living in DP camps in the U.S. zone of Germany.
