White House press secretary Charles G. Ross denied today that President Truman had changed his policy toward recognition of Israel.

Reports from London yesterday quoting “a responsible source” maintained that the United States had warned Israel that she faced the loss of American diplomatic recognition if Jewish troops should invade neighboring Arab states. Ross said flatly “no” this morning when asked if the President had changed his policy toward recognition of the Jewish state.

President Truman said in a speech in New York shortly before his election that he would extend de jure recognition to Israel “as soon as a permanent government is established.”
