Without calling for an emergency session of he Security Council the Israeli mission to the United Nations today indicated it is Maintaining a campaign of diplomatic pressure against Britain by consultations with individual members of the Council, However, it was also indicated that if the situation deteriorates further a meeting of the Council will be requested.
A program of this campaign was disclosed by a spokesman of the delegation today. As an initial part of the campaign Israeli chief delegate Aubrey Eban has already seen the representatives of five of the states represented on the Council. Today Eban spoke with Security Council president General Andrew McNaughton of Canada, inn Moe of Norway and Alexandra Parodi of France. Yesterday, Eban was in contact with Jacob Malik of the Soviet Union. These consultations followed Eban’s conference with Assistant Secretary of State Robert A. Lovett.
In all of these talks Eban expressed the grave apprehension of the Israeli Government over the movement of British forces to Aqaba and other points in the Middle East. The Israeli spokesman “assumed” that other members of the Council will be like-wise contacted in this campaign of keeping Great Britain under U.N observation without formal Council action.
