6,000 Jews Arrive in Haifa; 4,500 Immigrants Come from East European Countries

Six thousand Jewish immigrants arrived here over the week-end. Of the total, 4,500 arrived here from Eastern Europe — a record for Jews from that area. Speaking of the anticipated large immigration this year, Itzhak werfel, of the Jewish Agency immigration department, declared that at least 80,000 departments must be built to accommodate the newcomers in 1949.
