Following protests en the part of some 2,000 Jewish DP’s at the Bindermichl camp, near Linz, against a U.S. Army order to evacuate the camp immediately, the Amy authorities withdrew the original order and agreed to a system of staggered evacuation proposed by the DP’s. A number of Jewish organizations in Austria also intervened with the Amy in behalf of the plan offered by the DP’s.

Under the present set-up, one-third of the DP’s will be moved to other quarters on February 1 and a second group will leave March 1. Meanwhile, dependents of American military personnel will be moved into living quarters as they become ready.
