Final results of last Tuesday’s national elections are not expected to be announced until next Tuesday, it was learned here today. The counting of soldier ballots is proceeding very slowly and is far behind schedule.

Considerable behind-the-scenes activity is now going on regarding the composition of the new Israeli Government. Mapai leaders point out that if Mapem accepts the proposed internal and foreign platforms of the new government, and “disciplines itself,” it will be invited to join the coalition government.

“Under any circumstances, it seems certain that the Heruth, Irgun-sponsored party, will not be invited to join the government, while it is still uncertain whether the General Zionists will be asked. The participation of the Progressives, however, seems to be assured.

A proposal to increase the number of Cabinet posts from the present 13 to l5-with the extra two being assigned to Education and Health Ministers–is now under study. Mapai will probably have more portfolios in the Cabinet than it has held in the Provisional Government.
