Sternists in Acre Prison Go on Hunger Strike; Last Interned Group Due to Leave Cyprus

A number of Stern Group members imprisoned in the Acre Jail today went on a hunger strike. They refused to speak with Judge M. Dunkel blum, chairman of the detainees’ appeals committee, and demanded their immediate release or trial.

The Israeli steamship Atzmauth (Independence) was due in the Cyprus harbor of Famagusta today to pick up the last remaining group of Jewish refugees interned on the island. Yesterday, some 2,100 men, women and children were disembarked in recor time to permit the vessel to turn around and head for Cyprus.
