The services which the National Jewish Welfare ward is called upon to render in 1949 to American Jewish communities, to Jewish community centers and to Jewish personnel of the armed forces and hospitalized veterans will coat $491,955, it was reported today by the organization, which is the national association of 321 Jewish community centers and YM-YWHA’s, and is accredited by the Government to meet the religious, morale and welfare needs of Jews in uniform and ### veterans hospitals.
The budget for services and programs for its affiliated Jewish centers, and ### cultural agencies which the J.W.B. sponsors accounts for almost half the total budget in 1949. This will provide program and administrative guidance for Jewish centers and for groups in communities where there are no centers, and to “conduct those projects which are helping to build an indigenous American Jewish culture.”
For service to Jews in the armed forces and in veterans hospitals, the JWB’s programs include activities for ?I’s here and overseas. The Jewish Welfare Board, through its Division of Religious Activities, recruits and endorses Jewish chaplains ### the armed forces and Veterans Administration, and through its corps of 191 full ### part-time chaplains covers more than 400 military installations and hospitals.
