Poland’s restrictions on Jews migrating to Israel are meant to affect only those would-be emigrants who hold Israeli passports but intend to go to another country, Polish Ambassador to Britain Jerzy Michalowsky today told numbers of an Agudas Israel delegation who visited him.
The Ambassador also told the Agudah members that his government would not discriminate between Zionists and members of the Agudah in the matter of granting exit visas to persons headed for Israel. He also suggested that the matter could be straightened out in Warsaw between Polish and Israeli officials.
(During a recent visit of Dr. Joseph Schwartz, Joint Distribution Committee director for Europe, to Poland, he received from Polish Minister for Public Administration Wladyslav Volsky assurances that although the Polish Government does not approve of emigration from Poland at this time it “will not place any obstacles in the way of the emigration of Jews to Israel,” it was learned in Warsaw today.)
