Acting United Nations Palestine mediator Dr. Ralph J. Bunche today notified the Security Council at Lake Success that he had received Syria’s acceptance to his invitation to enter into armistice negotiations with Israel.
Bunche said he had informed Reuven Shiloah, of the Israeli foreign Ministry, of Syria’s decision and that the Israeli official–on behalf of his government–agreed to enter into negotiations with the Syrians. Bunche also revealed that he has made all necessary preparations for the negotiations, which will be held under the U.N.’s chairmanship.
