The Israeli mission here today issued the following statement:
“The Israeli Mission to the United Nations today expressed to members of the Security Council and to the Secretary General its concern at the adverse effect which the presence of British troops in Transjordan may have on the current armistice negotiations between Israel and Transjordan at Rhodes.
“It is reported that British forces at Aqaba intend to take over other sections of the Trans Jordan-Israel front. The arrival of British troops in Aqaba in January was a violation of the May 29th resolution of the Security Council which forbade the introduction of fighting personnel to any of the countries engaging in the Palestine conflict by any power. The reinforcement of those forces last week was an aggravation of that original infringement.
“At this moment, negotiations are proceeding under the November 16th armistice resolution for the withdrawal and reduction of forces. British forces, under the truce resolution, should never have arrived. Under the armistice resolution, they should be promptly withdrawn.”
