The convicted men had been in command of a police unit at Voitovca, on the River Bug, which formed the border-line between the territory occupied by Russian and German forces. They were instrumental in handing over the 12 Jews, who were subsequently shot, to the German police. The Jews had succeeded in escaping from one of the extermination camps on the German side of the river.
