Frenchman Who Denounced Jewish Resistance Leaders to Nazis Receives Death Sentence

Marcheret Deu, who in July, 1944, denounced leaders the Jewish resistance organization "Combat" to the Gestapo, was sentenced to death today by a Seine court. Most of the Jewish resistance leaders were subsequently de-parted and executed.

Deu succeeded in winning the confidence of the resistance leaders by posing a British intelligence agent. Two of the Jews–Rabbis L. Kapel and R. Lazarus–##naged to escape from the train carrying them to death centers in Poland and later returned to France to denounce Deu to the French authorities.
