Problems of basic Interest to American Jews will be discussed at the plenary session of the National Community Relations Advisory Council which opened here today at the Chelsea Hotel the session, which will last three days, is being attended by 90 delegates from national Jewish organizations and from 27 local Jewish communities.
The major issues listed for discussion are: 1. The state of Israel and its implications for American Jewry; 2. Relationships between American Jewish groups and organizations of other faiths; 3. What steps may Jewish groups take to prevent the showing of anti-Semitic or dangerous movies and plays without infringing on the principle of free speech; 4. The American policy in Germany and its implications for democracy.
In addition to seeking policy formulation on these matters, the plenary session will explore ways and means of making the coordinating role of the National Community Relations Advisory Council more effective in the coming year. Principal speakers at the session will include Henry Epstein, N.C.R.A.C. chairman Isaiah Minkoff, executive director of the organization; David Petegorsky, executive director of the American Jewish Congress; Dr. John Slawson, executive vice-president of the American Jewish Committee; Rabbi Maurice N, Eisendrath, president of the Union of American Hebrew Congregations; Benjamin R. Epstein, national director of the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith, and Prof. William Haber, former adviser on Jewish affairs to the American military government in Germany.
