Premier David Ben Gurion today appointed a court of inquiry to investigate the breakdown of the arrangements for yesterday’s military parade. The parade was cancelled at the last minute because of the inability of the police force to cope with the unexpectedly overwhelming crowd of several hundred thousand people who lined the streets along which the troops were scheduled to march. The court is composed of Mayor Israel Rokach, Attorney-General Jacob Shapiro and Col. Yigal yadin, Army Chief of Operations.
The Israeli-Syrian armistice negotiations, which had been suspended for more that a week, will resume tomorrow in “no-man’s land” near Mishmar Hayarden. The negotiations were deadlocked at the last meeting when the Syrian representatives refused to agree to the Israeli demand that their forces retire to the International boundary which would constitute the armistice line.
