Dr. Waksman, Discoverer of Streptomycin, Makes Possible $1,000,000 Research Center

Dr. Selman A. Waksman, discoverer of the drug streptomycin, has assigned his patent to Rutgers University and has made possible the erection of a $1,000,000 Institute of Microbiology at the university, Dr. Robert C. Clothier, president of the institution, announced yesterday.

Dr. Waksman, who will be the first director of the Institute, has made possible the erection of a building to house the new research center, and a grant of $250,000 toward the operating expenses by turning over the royalties from his patent on streptomycin. Other operating income will come from royalties, university funds and private grants.
