Over 23,000 Jewish Immigrants Arrived in Israel in May; New Reception Camps Planned

A total of 23,342 Jewish immigrants arrived in Israel in May, it was officially announced today. Of this total, 5,000 came from Turkey. A group of 870 new arrivals landed at Haifa today. They sailed from Bari, Italy, aboard the Israeli transport Galila. Yesterday, 1,800 immigrants–most of them from Germany and Austria–arrived in Haifa from Bari on the liner Atzmaut.

The Jewish Agency announced today that it will establish 13 new reception centers to accommodate 27,000 newly-arriving immigrants.

Delegations of the Jewish Labor Committee and the Gewerkschaften campaign in the U.S. were received by Premier David Ben Gurion last night prior to their leaving Israel for Europe on their return to the United States. The J.L.C. delegation was headed by Adolph Held and Jacob Pat.
