The American Jewish Congress has announced its support of federal aid to public school education, but urged that funds be denied ?o segregated and parochial schools and that sufficient funds be voted to guarantee at least an annual expenditure of $100 a year per school child. The Congress statement was submitted to the House Committee on Education and Labor which is holding hearings on the Thomas Bill already passed by the Senate. The document was signed by Rabbi Irving Miller, chairman of the A.J.C. executive committee, and Leo Pfeffer, counsel.
Two-thirds of the Manhattan employment agencies supplying white collar personnel are willing to fill an order for a “white Protestant” stenographer in violation of the New York State Law Against Discrimination, according to a survey published today by the Congress. Of 246 employment agencies, 158 agreed to fill the discriminatory request, which was made over the telephone by an unidentified caller, while 88, or 36 percent, refused.
