The British Colonial Office assured today S.S. Silverman, Member of Parliament, that none of the Yemenite Jewish refugees who fled form Yemen to the British protectorate of Aden will be sent back to Yemen.
Dr. Silverman, on behalf of the World Jewish Congress, intervened with the Colonial Office following receipt of a plea from the Jewish Emergency Committee in Aden that some hundreds of Yemenite Jews were in danger of repatriation.
According to the Colonial Office, there are now 900 refugees in the camp at Dala. Difficulties arose when several hundred arrived en route to Israel instead of only 200 as the authorities had been advised. They will all be permitted to remain until their transfer to Israel or other destinations can be arranged. Representatives of the Emergency Committee will be permitted to visit the camp to investigate conditions.
