Anglo-israeli Talks on Mutual Financial Claims Begin Friday; Sharett to Preside

Anglo-Israeli financial talks on mutual claims arising from the termination of the British Mandate in Palestine will begin July 1, it was learned here today. Usually reliable sources said British claims amounted to $84,000,000 and that Israel’s counter-claim was believed to be equally high.

Scope of the negotiations has been the subject of notes exchanged between British Foreign Secretary Ernest Bevin and Israeli Foreign Minister Moshe Sharett. An Israeli statement today said it was agreed to begin negotiations July 1 and that Mr. Sharett will preside, A special office has been established by the Israeli Government to handle the matter, the statement added.
