Walkout of Arab Dock Workers in Jaffa Averted; Arabs Receive Raise in Pay

The award of a small pay raise effective today has averted a walkout by 130 Arab dockworkers here, which if called would have been the first strike action by the Arabs since the establishment of Israel. Up to today, the Arab workers at Jaffa port were paid from $4,25 to $5,40 a day. Under the new scale, they will receive from $4,95 to $6.. Jewish workers on similar jobs are scaled from $6. to $7,20.
