A monument paying tribute to the memory of the 10,000 Jews who were murdered in the 1941 pogrom in the town of Jassy was unveiled here on the eighth anniversary of the massacre. Erected in the town’s Jewish cemetery, where a number of the victims lie buried, the monument consists of a number of tombs and a stone wall hearing two marble plates with inscriptions in Yiddish and Rumanian. Among those who attended the unveiling ceremony was Ion Niouli, vice-president of the Presidium of the Rumanian Popular Republic.
