Some 1,500 Jewish refugees trapped in Shanghai escaped injury in the recent bombing of the city by Chinese nationalist planes, but “everybody is still exposed to the same danger,” a cablegram received today from Adolph C. Glassgold, Joint Distribution Committee director in the Communist-held city, reported.

The cable also reported that there was no damage to refugee property. Mr. Glassgold’s message came in reply to a query sent a week ago by the J.D.C. on behalf of relatives of the Jewish DP’s in the United States. The J.D.C. representative remained behind when Shanghai fell to Communist armies in May, hoping to continue his efforts to evacuate Jewish refugees from the war-torn city to safety in Israel, Canada, the U.S. and other countries.
